Thanks to Andrew’s knowledge, expertise, and encouragement I was able to get my body in the best shape it’s ever been. I not only completed the Spartan race, I finished in the top 15 in my age group. I was 59 years old.  As a member of the Vital Strength community I also get nutritional advice and wellness tips. I particularly recommend his kale smoothie recipe. It doesn’t sound tasty, but it is. Andrew Heffernan is an excellent and compassionate coach. I can’t imagine working out with anyone else.  Neither should you.

Quick FAQs

As long as you have no medical conditions that preclude exercise, you can jump into Vital Strength classes regardless of your fitness level. I offer many variations on each exercise in each class, and it’s always up to you which one to choose. And if you are unable to perform any of the variations I offer—skip the movement, and resume training on the next move!

If you’re just trying the class, feel free to jump in without any equipment. It’s helpful to have an exercise mat (some movements are performed on the floor), and maybe a couple of soup cans for resistance. Once you’re committed to doing the class regularly, I recommend that you purchase a pair of dumbbells weighing anywhere from 5-20 pounds, and if you want to progress faster, you could get two pairs: one heavier and one lighter.

There are hundreds of classes available on my YouTube channel, and you can stream one at any time. Choose one that matches your goals (mobility, upper body, conditioning, lower body, etc), and fire away!

As long as your doctor has not told you expressly to rest completely, some amount of movement is always beneficial. So show up and do what you can. If it’s convenient, contact me beforehand—or notify me in the chat box once class has started—and tell me briefly about your injury (sore knee, lower back, etc). That way I can offer alternatives to movements that might not be advisable with injuries.
